First Letter

Dear class,

My name is Olivia and I am a senior at JHS. I’ll tell you a little bit about myself. I am seventeen years old. I have one dog named Charlie. My favorite color is dark blue, and I love to eat strawberries.

For the next little while I will be writing to you, and you will be writing back to me. I will answer your letters after I get the ones you write. I’m doing this for a project in one of my classes. I am so excited about writing to you and I hope you’re excited as well!

Sincerely, Olivia
So, I have sent my first letter to the teacher and she will be reading it to the class this week. The whole purpose of this project is to help this second grade class meet the Common Core Standards for letter writing. They will be focusing mainly on comma placement. I will be writing to the students, sometimes as myself, but sometimes as characters from the stories they are reading in class. The students will start writing back to me after Christmas break, as this last week before break is a bit crazy. So, until I get the letters back from the kids, have a Merry Christmas!

I had a bit of free time before church started tonight, so I finished my first letter to the class. I'll be sure to post the full letter soon. Yay for progress!

I have just received the email address of the teacher I will be working with, so now I have begun the daunting task of writing my first letter to this 2nd grade class. I'll be writing to tell the children about myself and the project. It doesn't seem like this would be such a difficult assignment, but I can't determine what is important to share about myself. Name, age, school, blah, blah, blah. Not interesting. Personally, I think my talent for pretending to puke super realistically is an incredibly vital fact, but I doubt that would be considered pertinent information by the woman who has to read this to a group of 8 year olds. Yeah, maybe I'll just stick the basics.
